“Safety First: Getting to Vision Zero”

Real World Safety
Solutions for Removing Dangerous Debris

As
part of the Vision Zero panel, Fred Bergstresser will present “Real World
Safety Solutions for Removing Dangerous Debris” which will focus on the current
crisis of debris causing crashes on highways.

A 2016
study by AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety found that debris contributes to an annual
average of 50,000 crashes in the United States.

J-Tech,
in response to a request from the Pennsylvania Turnpike, invented a new
multi-purpose device to replace the old-style push bumper on transportation
maintenance and safety vehicles. This device cannot only push disabled vehicles
off roadways but it will push dangerous debris from active lanes of traffic and
most importantly, do that without having workers walk onto live lanes of
traffic.  This new safety device quickly clears debris allowing traffic to
flow safely without queuing that sometimes cause secondary crashes or causes motorists
to use alarming “avoidance maneuvering”.  J-Tech’s LaneBlade®, a
monumental advance in improving highway safety, does the important job of
clearing roadways of debris and will help eliminate the dangerous practice of
workers leaping between moving vehicles to retrieve debris.

Vision
Zero can be accomplished but it will take a multidisciplinary approach using many
creative tools as will be shown on this IBTTA panel presentation. Please plan
to join Fred and the other panelists for this informative discussion on March
21
st in Orlando.
